Company Profile

Established in 2005, Wagner Zaun Architecture is located in downtown Duluth, on the shore of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota.

We offer architecture, research, and consulting that emphasizes creative design utilizing environmentally preferable practices and materials. Our specialty is residential and community based projects that are unique, energy efficient and conservation minded.

Principals Rachel Wagner and Doug Zaun have over 40 years of combined service in the practice of architecture. Our professional success results from this experience and our adherence to design and business operations using a rigorous process and constant communication. The integration of process and communication encourages excellence in the work we pursue.

We seek to maintain a sustainable practice of sustainable design. In our work, we make choices about materials, methods, and measurements. We work hard to study and understand the options and implications of the processes and products we select. Our decisions impact not only ourselves and our clients, but also our community and our planet. Many of our clients will undertake only one construction project in their lifetime. In contrast, as architects we participate daily in the construction industry, so the overall effect (positive or negative) of our work is magnified. Because our potential impact on our community and the environment is large, we choose to be as responsible as we can in our approach.

We are happiest when our work challenges, inspires and rewards us. To this end we seek work that provides us with these satisfactions. By doing so, our work serves to sustain us, our employees, our families and our community.
