Harbor City International School Theater

Commercial / 2007
Duluth, MN

This Charter school is located in the business district of Duluth’s downtown, providing an alternative location and learning environment for its students.  Wagner Zaun Architecture collaborated with Scalzo Architects to design a new performance theater and classroom space for the High School. The turn of the century warehouse space boasted brick walls and large old growth heavy timber construction.  Within this raw space a new 160 seat performance venue, backstage, lobby and art gallery were created.  The curved back wall of the theater forms the entrance and art display wall for the new theater’s lobby and concession space.  It also serves as an art display wall for the student’s work.  Evening and weekends the space functions as a community theater and performance space.  During the school day it becomes a multi-function meeting and classroom.
