White Iron Lake Cabin
Cabins / In Design / Low Energy / 2011
Ely, MN
The owners of this lake property have a great appreciation of the natural resources in the region. They wanted their new cabin to be cheerful and functional, comfortable for them and the frequent guests who visit. Views of the lake face south, providing the opportunity to maximize passive solar design. A compact building form and open plan on both levels takes advantage of views and the sun’s energy and a super-insulated structure resulted in a house that will be heated with small space heating appliances rather than a central heating system. Exterior sheltered spaces on both levels allow occupants to move fluidly from inside to outside, accommodating a lifestyle focused on enjoyment of the outdoors. Construction will be completed Spring 2012.
